We have only seen this lovely flower at higher altitudes in the mountains, and commonly where it is quite dry. I saw this plant as we were being guided around the fascinating Anasazi or Ancient Pueblo people's ruins around Chimney Rock, Colorado.
I had a hard time taking a good shot of this because the light was so bright and the ground so dry. The dry ground was acting as a reflector back at the camera. I set the ev at -0.33 but I should have set it at -.66 or even maybe -1.0.
